The thing about Sam Adams? It's mostly about the beer. Which is fun. I like insider info on brewery tours, but I've now done enough that I know the beer basics. So short tours than end in beer tasting? Very nice. And I learned that this location, the original brewery, is now mostly for development...the bulk of the brewing is done at the other plans. So it's nice and small.
Anyway, after tasting some hops and talking about beer, it was time to drink. They just fill up pitchers and pass them around. I learned how to properly taste beer. Also, still don't like IPAs.
And then...there was the party trolley.
Yes, you heard me, party trolley. The brewery has a deal with a local pup, the first ever to sell Sam Adams beer. You buy a beer, you get a free SA glass. And there's a party trolley that goes from the brewery to the pub, and will even drop you off at the subway after. That 5 minute drive was pretty awesome, hanging off the back of the trolley, double fists pumps....yeah, we'd been drinking.
Doyle's took a chance on Sam Adams at the beginning and now I bet them make a killed off of the party trolley visitors. Also, scenes from the Departed were filmed here. That's also a theme of the trip...they love pointing out Departed stuff up there.
I had maybe my favorite SA beer, cherry wheat, and the famous lobster roll. I still prefer crab to lobster, but it was yummy.
Drunk before noon? Whatever, it's 5:00 somewhere. |
After real food we decided to drive up the coast. More on that in the next post.
