Travel Blues

I knew the thunderstorms were coming...but I also knew they would eventually end. So i prepared myself for a lot of delays but never anticipated the shit-show that was about to commence.

Thursday afternoon I was antsy as hell to get out of work, finish packing, and head to the airport for my trip to St. Louis. I was beyond excited. Then I got the next with the first delay. No problem, that left time for a little happy hour before heading to the airport (something I had to skip on Weds due to working late/packing/general bad planning). So I should have known that things were going to end badly when the bar was out of my favorite beer. WTF! I need Misfit Red!

Well after beer and girl talk I headed to the airport. And the back and forth of delays ensued. 11:00, 12:00, 10:30, 1:00, 12:15, CANCELLED.

Yep, I sat at the airport from 9:00 until midnight waiting on a plane only to have the flight canceled. Sure, there were thunderstorms when I got there. And I got wet getting inside. But by 10:30 all the storms had moved on. But the entire east coast was messed up. Last I heard out pilot was stuck in Cleveland, unable to take off thanks to storms there. But that flight did eventually land in Baltimore. So who knows what really happened. I know that flights were taking off all around me, but I was stuck.

1 hour in line to rebook. Woman on the phone refused to book me for the first available flight due to my attitude. So continued to wait in line...and ended up with the crappies flight ever (more to come). So by 1am I was rebooked and looking for my bags. I finally got my bags at 2:50am. No one knew where they were. Or anyone's. 5 cancelled flights and they had no clue were all those bags were.

Shuttle to car. Drive home. Almost hit a deer. Didn't fall asleep until 4am.

Miserable the next day. Missing pedicures with mom, Shakespeare festival, Julie playing Taiko...all because of a weak ass thunderstorm. But when I called home, by little brother, who's going through some anxity and drepression, was actually the one to brighten my morning. "Missy, what's important is that you're still coming. It's late, but you'll be here. Just stay positive." So with that I got out of bed, a friend took me to lunch, then I had a solo pedi. Then it was back to the airport.

First stop Mississippi.

Then Houston.

Then finally, at 11:50pm, I landed in St. Louis. 26 hours after I should have gotten there. 2 extra states.

So yeah, not the best start to my awesome weekend away, but I tried to make up for lost time.
