Post hike camping/Cunningham Falls

After getting pretty tipsy post Annapolis Rocks hike there was camping. And the rain waited until bedtime, mostly. Just some little sprinkles. So I can't complain one bit. One of these days my weekends will not be all sunshine and rainbows and I'm going to have to remember all the other things I like to do that does not involve going outside. But that day has not yet come.

There was campfire pizza, reese's peanut butter cup s'mores, and s'mores pancakes in the morning. Oh and some homebrew. Not the healthiest camp trip but it was oh so yummy. There was bluegrass music and warm sweatshirts.

Using a coal torch to cook the bottom crust.

Oh bugs!

The next morning was misty in the mountains. Which was awesome in person, not so awesome for pictures. There are many ghost shots where you just can't tell whose face is behind the wall of cloud (or ghost!) We went to Cunningham Falls, "climbed" on some wet rocks, and just generally goofed around in the woods.Oh and found a million tadpoles at the lake! I resisted temptation and didn't catch some. Since when do I want a frog? Since Sunday.

Annapolis Rocks/Black Rock Cliff

So, around here Annapolis Rocks is a much talked about location - or at least it became one once I started climbing. I didn't get to climb, but I'll certainly go back. The rocks seem great.

So my hiking group and I set off on the 8 mile journey on the Appalachian Trail. (4 miles up and 4 back). The first 2 miles are the worst uphill section. And it wasn't that bad! But there was a clear separation of guys in front, talking about music and beer, and girls in back, talking about boys and trees. We mingled better later! So the first overlook was Annapolis Rocks. Amazing views.

Why do I look sad? This is a happy place.

I want to climb this...but I need a rope.

"Don't look at the camera, I want a candid shot!"

After a nice break we headed up the trail to Black Rock Cliff. This overlook was not as crowded so we had some time mostly to ourselves. We broke out a few beers and enjoyed the sites.

After hiking the 4 miles back to the cars we went off to a local bar for some great craft beer. Hilarity ensued. I believe at one point there was discussion of trying me to a keg (so I didn't get lost when I passed out one a float trip, obviously the best solution is a beer flotation device).
