This weekend my friend Emily and I went for a hike at Liberty Reservoir. It was great to get out just us ladies and have girl talk, go at our own pace, and just explore. We were supposed to do 6.3 miles and ended up with 6.5 along an almost entirely different route than we'd planned.
See, we did the first 1.5 miles or so just fine. We found the water, hung out with butterflies, and walked through a mile of spider webs. Then the trail guide said "Turn right and cross the stream". But that stream? It was to the left. How does that work? So we walked about half a mile trying to find this mystery right turn that led to the stream crossing. And we ended up back at the same trail junction we'd taken before.
Luckily we had previously run into a man who walks his dogs on these trails all the time. So he told us an alternate route. We didn't know exactly where we were going, but we had Emily's GPS and managed to follow two trails to a pretty good loop. Didn't get out to the point that juts out into the water, but there's always next time.
