So today I'm 28.5! That leaves only 6 months until 29. And while most people freak out about turning 30, I just panicked. Mainly because someone pointed this out:
If you're turning 29, you're entering your 30th year. See when you turn 1, your first year is over and you're starting your 2nd. So yeah, you can still make all these goals for before you turn 30 but that puts a lot of pressure on your 30th year, which should be more laid back? I don't know what I'm saying really. I guess I'm just a sucker for punishment. Because in honor of my half birthday (hey, us summer kids used to have nothing else to celebrate in school) I revisited this post and got sad that I hadn't really gotten anywhere with it. And while I technically have 1.5 years, I'm slightly wondering how likely it is that anything will be done in the next 6 months, just in case. Of what? I don't know. Let's review.
1. Eat frogs legs Nope, not yet. Why not?! I guess I need to be more proactive.
2. Catch and cook (and eat) some crawfish I was told not to do this unless it was in Louisiana, but then was told about all the snakes there and freaked out. I can at least eat these somewhere this spring/summer but I don't know about the catching thing.
3. Go to Boston - Julie, I'm looking at you. Long weekend? This is going to happen before I turn 29! Just need to plan it.
4. Climb Pike's Peak - Been the one and only thing on my before 3o list
up until now. Need to train and want to do for my 29th birthday...eek!
Um, also, a friend just ran...yes ran...the trail, up and back (24
miles) in 8 hours. I think it'll be more like 3 days for me. Yeah, so not happening for my 29th birthday, unless I happen to get a job in Colorado before then. I don't want to give up on this but a few reasons why this might not happen have me sad. need to reflect and see what I can do.
5. Go zip lining - realistically this may be post 30, since we want to
do it in Costa Rica or somewhere cool (and hopefully not end up with
flesh eating grossness) but I'll challenge myself to it anyway. I got scared and didn't go here in MD...ugg to me.
6. Leave the country for a trip. Was going to Iceland, now I'm not. Can still potentially do next summer before 30, or for my 30th bday.
7. Buy a new car. My first car purchase not provided by the parents was a
used car, I am in the market for something new and want to go for
something nice, not just cheap. Hopefully will happen in 2013, maybe even my bday gift.
8. Go on an overnight kayak trip. Must wait for summer.
9. Ghost tour/haunted pup crawl. Went on a ghost tour in Old Town!
10. Visit New Orleans. So did not happen for New Years. Dang it!
11. D.C.'s cherry blossom festival. On the list for April.
12. Eat some sort of weird meat that I haven't before (emu, kangaroo?). Maybe Rob can give me some elk? ROB!
13. Summit the highest peak in Maryland/Virginia/West Virginia (at least one - possibly other states as well). Alright, alright, I'll get planning.
14. Skinny dipping. hmmm. Need to go backpacking and find a remote pool.
15. Get a dog. If I figure out where I'm going to be living and actually settle down. then yes. Is it wrong to make everything a gift to myself for my 30th?!
Things I have done before 28!
16. Rode a horse on the beach
17. Gotten through a break up
18. Gotten rid of toxic friends
19.Shot a gun/bow and arrow (both!)
20. Move across the country
21. Go white water rafting
22. Write a book (though I should add finish novel to the before 30 list)
23.Gone rock climbing
24.Gambled in Vegas
25.Bubble bath with a man you love
26. Lived alone
27. Seen Ireland/England
28. Stay in a sketchy hotel
29. Do something you never thought you'd do (I have something specific in mind, but it's not going up on the blog)
30.Catch and cook my own crabs (and fish)

I think the list of things you HAVE done is awesome.
My major freak out was on my 25th birthday, which sounds silly, but it really seemed like hitting the quarter century mark was a big deal at the time. Turning 30 didn't bother me in the slightest. And you know something? So far, my 30s have been amazing. I strongly suspect you will complete not only the items on your bucket list over the next few years, but a ton of other wonderful things you never planned on!
I'm sure there's plenty to add to both lists. It's not like my life will end at 30, just good to have goals. I know there will be a lot of adventure regardless of lists. Now I'm pondering cave exploration...
