Birthday Beginnings

My birthday isn't until Thursday, but I have so many little fractions of friends that I tend to celebrate for a week or more. This is also due to it being a holiday and people having other summertime plans. Well, Friday we kicked it all off.

But let's wait on that. Cause it's the best part of the story. :)

This weekend did not go at all as planned. I've been in a funk all week and wasn't really excited about anything. Probably because things had fallen apart and come back together so much that I was just tired of trying to see people. I just wanted to skip ahead to vacation. Which is rare, usually my weekends kick ass. But you can only have so many great weekends before things are just blah.

Parts of the weekend kept with this theme - like boys having to be with the family and thus me being all alone today instead of out on the water. Well really, the rain was the main reason I wasn't on the water. Probably could have found someone else to paddle with. But no fishing. I really want to get out on the boat and do some fishing! I did a few chores and started packing. I think now it's chick flick night. Not the same as spending time with your guy. Especially when he's been out of town/stuck with other obligations for the last 2 weeks. Ugg.

Saturday I was going to a winery b/c I had a groupon. Of course I was not smart and completely missed the "not valid on" part. There was a huge festival going on. Which could have been a fun alternative if 1) I hadn't had so much to drink on Friday, 2) I was with better friends instead of just one girl from meetup, and 3) It weren't about $30 more than I wanted to spend that day. We ended up driving all around MD to find another winery because this girl had never done a wine tasting. Again, could have been fun but I also could have been at the beach if I had planned this on another day when the groupon was valid. My own fault, but frustrating.

But I did manage to get my birthday/fourth of July pedicure. Which I squeezed in thinking I'd be busy from Sunday all the way through to vacation. I could have been a lot less crazy Saturday and done that today. Oh well.

Also, I went out with some girl friends for crabs. It was a lovely night of good food and good girl chats. Which ended up continuing with a sushi lunch today. I love that I have someone who can understand some crazy relationship talk. But more on that in another post...maybe.

And now we can go back to Friday. Lack of planning meant I was fairly certain it was just going to be a quiet night at home, with dinner and maybe a movie. Which was fine, the rest of the weekend was planned out well enough. Well thank goodness Friday went way better than expected since the rest of the weekend fell apart.

So I show up at the guy's place after work and I'm greeted by a platter of homemade toasted ravioli! For those that need help with the significance, this is a big St. Louis food which no one else gets right. I mean, you can get frozen cheese ravioli here. Or there was one a restaurant that basically wrapped a jalapeno in pasta and fried it, calling it toasted ravioli. Neither of these things are right. And while this version was still not St. Louis, it was gosh darn close enough. And it was amazing. Giving me a taste of home, which he knew I'd been missing, super sweet birthday action #1.

Super sweet birthday action #2: A break in the rain turned into a walk on the beach, beer in hand, which turned into kisses in the rain. :)

There were also crabs, which was unexpected. He was actually going to cook some awesome looking salmon, but crabs were mentioned and we got some last minute. Birthday crabs should really be a thing. I can't believe that's never happened before.

Some of the rest of the evening we'll keep secret. But it was fun and romantic and completely not what I was expecting. Still very simple, non-extravagant night, but perfect. Oh and we had a late night jam session. Him on the guitar, me on the little bongo. Musicians = swoon!Although he still hasn't tried Brown Eyed Girl, which seems to me the obvious song choice, but maybe he's still practicing that one.

And finally...super sweet birthday action number....umm let's say we're up to #10 since we skipped some....homemade chocolate cake!

I guess I'm supposed to see this as "Well, you're old, but you're not that old." Or, guys just don't usually keep candles at their house and this was all that could be find.

2.5 days until the big birthday bash! But Bravo to the boy for getting things started off right.
