Assateague Island

Well before I get to the awesome beach trip, last Friday night I had a birthday party to attend. It took me 2.5 hours to get to Annapolis and I was about to cry a few times. Storms plus traffic on the bridge (going to the beach) made it a complete nightmare. I tried back roads, but so did everyone else so they were just as bad. I should have just gone home and go my normal route, which would have been about 1 hour out of my way...but when you in a parking lot it's not like the direct route was any faster.

Anyway, birthday dinner was good except the Cards game was on TV (a rarity out here) and I couldn't see it from our table. And then there were shots.

And then the birthday girl got a Tiffany necklace from a guy she's been seeing for 2 months. And on Sunday caught her mom looking up the necklace online to see what this guy had spent on her. Classic.

And then later that night I helped break a bed.

Yeah, pretty wild night.

Anyway, Saturday morning we headed to the beach. I was excited to see some wild horses, since I hadn't the first time out here. And we saw some before we even got to our campsite!

Thanks to Tropical Storm Andrea there was surf ...so not my kind of day at the beach. I probably would have gotten knocked down and carried away by a wave. But guys in wet suits? Pretty damn hot.

So I spent a lot of the day just sitting on the beach watching the waves...and reading a new book. It was a little chilly and the water was still freezing. But I'll get in beach time in a few weeks!

A little thunderstorm meant hiding in the tent for a bit, but that lead to some guitar serenading. Julie, what'd you say about dating guys with guitars....? Woops.

After the storm was over there was some Frisbee in the sand. Only I would end up with a giant bruise on my hand from Frisbee, but I did. Apparently I catch the hardest thrown Frisbees.

Oh look, the sun came out!
We watched the sun set over the dunes and had a dinner of venison and veggies. No big deal.

Our campsite was right on the beach, so once it got dark we walked across the dunes and built a campfire on the beach. We had beers. And s'mores. And watched shooting stars. It was gag-worthy romantic. Be jealous.

After staying up until 1:30am watching stars and snuggling, the most logical next step is to wake up at 5:30am to watch the sunrise over the ocean. Yep, perfect plan. But we did it! And it was wonderful. Except for the clouds.

The horses we found on the beach made their way to our campsite. Which was awesome, because I just sat on the picnic table and watched them for a while. Not awesome because I wanted to go back to bed but didn't want to get trampled in my tent if one decided to search for food. So until the boy successfully shooed them off, I was stuck watching. Oh my poor life.

Not happy when we told him he had to stop licking the grill.

Sunrise from camp

After a nap for me and more surf time for the boy we packed up camp and headed to Ocean City. OC is not my kind of beach. I liked the national park where it's nice and wild. OC is like the jersey Shore. Touristy and crowded. But I'd never been so I went and took in all the crazy. I wish I had pictures of the great people watching.

Then we headed to a popular bar, where they have sand everywhere and rafts out on the bay. So we ordered fruity frozen drinks 9pina coloda with an extra shot of rum = heaven) and floated around for a few hours. Finally warm enough for bikini water time. And it was amazing.
