Hard to believe this is year 6 in the wonderful OBX. Of course, my last few years have been short thanks to lack of vacation days, but I've at least been down there for a long weekend. Since I was too busy at work to plan a trip to the mountains my plan of half a week at the beach became a full week. And it was a week of relaxation and not much else. Sleeping in, napping, playing in the waves, reading on the beach, napping on the beach. All happy times. We went out to dinner at the buffet and ate too many crab legs. Went mini golfing, where I did not win but did pretty well, for me. I even got a hole in one! My second hole in one was stolen by Nick, whose ball was in the way. We tried to go crabbing, but it was windy and the crabs seemingly could not smell our bait because we barely caught anything. Maybe 5 small guys not work keeping. It was the one rainy day so we set up a tent and everything to keep dry. our plan was to go back another day, but we never did. Lame. John and I went kayaking one our last day, in the sound not the ocean. I was not sure about those waves! It was a pretty nice trek, though we were paddling against the wind most of the time - not fun when you're heading home and tired. Found out John does not like being out in the open water since it's boring. He prefers being close to shore where there's stuff to see. We saw cranes and water rats and even a crab (who had his claws up ready to attack). On our last evening John and I took a sunset stroll along the beach. It's becoming a tradition. Of course, we never head back in time and always have trouble finding the right set of stairs in the dark.
