Wedding Weekend

John's sister got hitched! In a ceremony of crazy that only comes from love? But, as was so happily realized by John's drunken brother, we now have the trifecta:
1 sibling married, with children.
1 sibling gone rogue and living in sin, with children in the future
1 gay sibling going who knows where.

The only thing missing is a mixed race couple, but sadly unless Carl decides to ditch his current guy and find a non-white boyfriend, that's just one we'll have to give up on.

Anyway, John and I arrived Thurs evening so that we'd be around for set-up and the rehearsal on Friday. Carl was supposed to be coming in from Florida around 9, but first got delayed since Obama was leaving the airport at the same time he should have been, then he was diverted to Pittsburgh thanks to storms in Baltimore. So we didn't see him, his partner, or his friend until the morning.

Friday involved moving plants from the parent's house to the uncle's house...as well as tons of other decorations. A family friend did a lot of the set-up as did John's aunt, but there was still some heavy lifting involved. The rehearsal went pretty well despite bride and groom being late (oh and the groom being hungover). And I had to bite my tongue while step-mother to the groom got way too involved in how we would end the ceremony. In my head I refused a rewrite, but the bride told us what she wanted to we added one small word and ignored mother. The rehearsal lunch was a shit-show. First, they'd lost our reservation so we waited for a table for 20 for an hour. Then, there were fights over who sat where, to which I finally sat at a table and refused to move. John tried to please everyone and got grumpy when I told him to just sit down and stop fretting. And then he hated his food. But we made it through. After lunch, Carl (brother) set to work on the cake, John and I went back to helping set up, and Shanann (bride) went to get her nails done. The evening was filled with some drinking and fun conversation amongst final preparations (ironing!).

Highlights from Saturday include:
Rain, rain rain....we've been in a drought and it chose this day to rain. But we managed to get through the ceremony with only some mist. The downpour came later, but there was a tent.
Not enough dancing due to the rain.
John's the most adorable southern preacher.
Flower girl melt down as we're about to walk down the aisle.
Ceremony was short and sweet, like we all wanted.
I caught the bouquet because it was thrown right in my face. My protesting didn't work and I didn't want to be rude. Giving it to Caroline didn't work.
John didn't catch the garter, despite it falling right in front of his feet. He felt set up and didn't want to deal with marriage talk.
A 12(ish) year old caught it instead. I refused to let him but it on my leg, cause I'm pretty sure that's illegal, but was again forced to be a good sport. He was terrified when he was told what to do, I only let him go to my ankle. Should be some interesting photos.
Lots and lots of drunken gay guys. And by lots, I mean 3, but they were drunk enough for more. Then there was drama and people ran away into the woods....but rest seems to have cured it.
I didn't eat enough crabs because I was torn away for cake and bouquets and never found my way back.
