30th Birthday!

I guess it's about time I said some things about my birthday, huh? It's only been like 6 weeks or something.

So yeah, I turned 30. And I didn't freak out too much about being single and childless. Cause you know, I was going to Italy. And my life is pretty amazing.

The birthday was spent in Acadia, Maine. And there were no fireworks (thanks, hurricane). Here's how things went down.

Thursday:

4 hour flight delay thanks to a hurricane

With the flight delay, the rental car madness, and the drive from Boston, we hit our hotel at 4am. They didn't have anon-smoking room. Gross.

Friday:

Happy Birthday to me! I'm sleepy and it's overcast....

Drove the rest of the way to Acadia, set up camp, got groceries.

Found a trail before it started raining!

Went to town and had the best mussels I've ever had. Eat local!

Also, John decided to be humble. And by Humble I mean....yeah.

But the tiny towns in Maine decided it was too rainy for fireworks. And they didn't even reschedule for Saturday - they postponed until the following week. Happy July 11?

Saturday:

Hurricane rain ALL DAY.

We did not die, despite jumping into the car around 4am because we heard a tree crack in the wind and were fairly certain one was going to fall on our tent. One DID block a road and we thought we were stuck on one tiny section of the island. Luckily I can read a map and found a way around said road block.

We drove all over the park, checking things out, getting soaking wet.

We went into Bar Harbor for beers and the rain decided to stop. But it was still really cold so there was no kayaking.

Sunday:

The sun decided to come out! We had a lovely hike to the eastern-most peak in the U.S., Cadillac Mountain. The way up was all rock steps. The way down was this crazy non-trail down a riverbed. I am shocked it's actually a trail it was that poorly maintained. But my knee survived!

And then we decided to see what everything looks like in the sun.

John felt right at home
Until someone decided to change the spelling...

The place we named firecracker beach because of the sound the rocks made when the water went out

And then, there were "The Bubbles"

A lime-a-ritas on some rocks

And the epic no-match fire starter!

Monday:

We had to drive back to Boston to catch our flight home :( But we stopped at Allagash on the way!
