Archery

Last weekend John and I took an archery lesson. This will hopefully be something we do again. We both missed a lot, but we also had some nice shots. My favorite was shooting a fox through the eye. I broke a few arrows, which probably isn't good, but I was just glad they hit something (even if that something was a wooden poll). John's now convinced I need to shoot squirrels at his parents' house, but I don't think I'm ready for moving targets.

Only negative, the owner's "Hey, she's pretty good...what were we thinking, teaching a woman to use a weapon." Oh redneck, you shouldn't say such things as I have said weapon in my hand.

Well, now you'll have to come over and shoot my rifle. An' we'll juss have ta see if'n a pretty li'l thang lahk you can han'le tha kick o' that ol' mule.

Seriously, my shoulder hurts after only a few shots with the thing. Russians in the 40s must've had huge, muscular shoulders. Probably from all that yak wrestling.

I like the bow; it makes me feel poised or something. the intent was to learn this so I don't need a rifle. Though, I did say last night that I wanted to go shooting. But I don't know about a giant rifle. No sense hurting myself. What's come over me?!

You've gotten soft, Melissa. Worrying about hurting yourself... I can't believe it.

I have a revolver too. I haven't shot it yet, but it's supposed to have very little kick. And my father-in-law has several rifles. The .22 is easy to shoot.

I've never shot a bow before. My father-in-law has one. I tried pulling it back, but his is pretty intense. I think the draw on it is 60 pounds. I think I could do it, but I'd probably be too embarassed to do it in front of him. It'd be fun to shoot a bow though.

I'm not always worried about hurting myself. I mean, you should see me after I go rock climbing. I won't be able to ever wear a skirt again! My poor knees. But ya know, shooting myself is a little more serious...as is getting knocked over due to a powerful weapon. But I'm sure it's going to happen. Me and my adventurous self are crazy.

We had baby bows, so it was easy. You need to do it! It's pretty great. And it'll help when the zombies come...
